How to write from your heart

What makes your heart overflow with joy?

What issues or situations forcibly tug at your heartstrings?

And what things so thrill, excite or move you that you feel simply compelled to share the good news, or to do something to make a difference where a need patently exists?

It is in asking and answering questions like these that you will gain the necessary and essential stimulus to begin writing effectively from your heart.

Whatever your intended subject matter, it is absolutely vital that it is one you feel personally and passionately about, that you may write with directness and honesty, as if you were writing to yourself.

If what you write does not first stir and move your own heart, it will be powerless to do so for anyone else.

Don’t shy away from, or be afraid to tackle, the difficult subject or the thorny issue, many of which may be crying out for someone to give them a voice.  Follow the convictions of your heart, for your appreciation and understanding of the matter will guide and direct your tactfulness and sensitivity.

And don’t be ashamed to wear your heart on your sleeve.  When others see that you truly and genuinely care about your subject matter, they may similarly be led to care about it too.

Always give of yourself fully, freely and unreservedly.  It is in and through such generosity of giving that other lives will be touched, challenged and blessed.

Never try to wow your audience with your intellect, win them with your tenderness.
