Tell-a-Friend©
Early in the morning, upon the first day
Women came to Christ's tomb, but found the stone rolled away,
And, entering in, they became perplexed in mind
As the body of Jesus nowhere could they find.
Then, arrayed in shining garments, two men appeared,

Bringing a message of joy to those who now feared,
Saying "Why seek ye the living among the dead?
He is not here, but is risen, just as He said."
The command next was given to go quickly and tell

Of the One holding the keys both of death and of hell;
And departing, they ran to bring His disciples word,
Who found the tomb empty, just as they had heard.
But Jesus appeared to them later, as they sat at meat,
Showing them the nail prints in His hands and feet -

The guarantee of the Victor's divine identity,
Proving He had paid it all to buy our souls' liberty.
For, upon that ever blessed resurrection morn
The hope of mankind gloriously was reborn,
As the gospel was complete, Satan a defeated foe,

And because Jesus lives, we shall too live also -
For where now is death's sting, or the grave's victory claim?

As the believer in Christ, though they die, shall yet live again;
Thus this truth to each Christian such assurance gives -
The absolute certainty that our Redeemer lives.

And our mighty Saviour, who from the dead was raised
Gave this precious promise - to be with us always,

As upon the church, He His power did bestow
That we might fulfil His great commission to go,
And take the life-changing gospel to every nation,
Preaching to every creature God's so great salvation.

Ask any child why we celebrate Christmas, and most will quickly mention the birth of Jesus Christ.  But ask the same question concerning Easter, and the answers given may reveal a startling degree of ignorance concerning the death and resurrection of the Son of God.

Focusing on the thrilling events of the most momentous day in history, this poem seeks to recapture the joy of that first Easter Sunday, from the angelic proclamation “He is risen”  through to His triumphant appearance to His disciples.

The doctrine of the resurrection is one whose importance can never be over-stressed.  It is the vital foundation upon which our forgiveness, salvation, faith, hope, eternal security and the message we proclaim are all firmly rooted

As you read the poem, have you given thanks lately that Jesus not only died for our sins, but rose again - triumphing over sin, death, hell and the grave.  As you review His love for you, may you renew your love for our risen, ascended, glorified and soon-returning Saviour.
