Mum
A poem from the book “Touching Hearts

In a world today where the sanctity of the parent-child relationship is often betrayed, it is a great privilege for me to look back and recall the unstinting love of my parents, as manifested towards me in so many selfless acts of kindness.

I have no shame or reservations in telling my mother how much I love, respect and admire her.

Perhaps this poem will inspire you to search your heart and put into words your love and appreciation for your mother.  And there is no time like the present, for, whatever may have transpired, nothing can ever change, diminish or negate the love of a devoted and caring mother.

Mum

"You're mummy's wee darling" were the words you told me
As I lay in my pram in tender infancy,
And before I was too old God's goodness I knew
In giving me a mum as wonderful as you.

So these words I have penned to offer you much deserved praise
For your love demonstrated in a thousand different ways -
For your selfless devotion, no effort being spared;
For your patience and kindness, and for how you really cared;

For training me up in the way I should go,
Instilling the values which my life would show;
For always being there in any time of distress,
When the world seemed a place so harsh and friendless.

You recognised my potential, and in me you believed,
Sharing the happiness as my goals I achieved,
And I realise that the shocks and frights along the way
Probably helped to turn your hair grey.

And when my travels took me far across land and sea
I knew I was in your thoughts and prayers constantly,
And I realised, howe'er far I may roam -
Thanks to you, and dad, there truly is no place like home.

So, mum, this is my tribute, with deep affection sent,
With every word being sincerely meant;
Thanks for all you have done, and all you continue to do,
And always remember, how much I love you.
