The Burden Bearer

Do the burdens you carry seem heavy?
Do the trials of life weigh you down?
Do you feel so alone with your problems,
That your face wears no smile – but a frown?

Have the friends of this world all forsaken?
You wonder if anyone cares;
You stumble and fall in the darkness,
You reach out – but no-one is there.

Take heart, weary soul, there is someone
Who will carry your burdens for you;
He’s waiting and willing to help you,
But only if you ask Him too.

That great “Burden Bearer” is Jesus,
Right now He is passing your way;
Just come to Him now, He is waiting,
Oh say you will trust Him today.

He’ll bring to your life a new meaning,
No more will you face life alone,
He’s your Saviour, your Friend and Redeemer,
Your Everything, rolled into One.

How many in today’s pressurised times are bearing burdens of one kind or another?  Burdens of illness, of disability, of loneliness, of increasing years, of financial constraints – the list could simply go on and on.

This very comforting poem reminds us that we do not have to carry our burdens alone, but can bring them to the Lord Jesus Christ, who gives rest to the weary and heavy laden.

The Psalmist David encouraged us – “Cast thy burden upon the Lord, and he shall sustain thee.” (Psalm 55:22)  Again, the Apostle Peter reiterated this wise counsel – “Casting all your care upon him; for he careth for you.” (1 Peter 5:7)

Why shoulder those burdens a single day longer?  Bring them to Him now, seek His face in prayer, that you may experience the glorious reality of His all-sufficient grace.
